Okay, so for those of you who are PETA supporters I warn you that what I am about to say you may find offensive and if you do well I am not sure we would be friends anyway. I am an animal lover; I love them on my floor, on my wall and on my back. I know, I know maybe not so PC but what can I say, they speak to me.
So maybe I am not a fur coat kind of gal (unless it is vintage, of course) but there is nothing like a fabulous zebra skin rug or a fantastic deer head you find at an estate sale. And not to forget one of my favorites, an exquisite tortoise shell sitting just about anywhere. There is something so chic and sexy about a little bit of the African Sahara sitting right on your living room floor. It screams old Hollywood to me and makes me want to jump right into a scene from "Out of Africa".
Speaking of Africa, there is a little surprise at the end of this post from when I lived in beautiful Tanzania and I went hunting with one of the oldest nomadic tribes in the world. But until then enjoy some of my favorite wildlife looks.
I saw these cardboard heads at West Elm this past winter and thought they were hilarious. I was tempted to buy the Rhino version.
Really wish I was in front of that fire place. Great example how zebra can go anywhere.
If you are on a budget, cow hide from Ikea! Looking not too bad.
Real zebra is costly and can be hard to find but you can always get it printed on cowhide for a quarter of the cost.
Out of Elle Decor. Purple and zebra! What could be better?!
Hollywood starlet Joan Bennett, looking very cool with a fantastic fox coat.
Love this idea of how they used the tortoise shell to accent the fireplace.
Fake is great, and what an unexpected piece for this crisp porch.
If you have never seen "Out of Africa" then all I have to say is that you should be ashamed of yourself. It is Meryl at her best and I highly recommend you go rent it. Now.
Not crazy about the rest of the room but LOVE the Morrocan goat rug.
There is not one thing i can find wrong with this room. Not sure where it is but it makes me want to go to Bali.
Out of Coastal Living, an all white look with a pop of black. Notice the antlers on the table too.
Love this faux antler chandelier and the turquoise cow head on the wall.
And me, looking frizzy and dusty with a Kudo head. I definitely would have mounted that thing had it not been for the fact that it was the Hadzabe tribe's dinner. Oh, and that little thing of probably being arrested and deported! Oh well.
Love the photos...Kid you have street cred in my book for going to Africa and having such a fantastic and enriching time. Waka Waka..back at ya...
